BH Series New Vehicle Registration Rules: In order to facilitate seamless transfer of private vehicles between the states of the country, the government has announced a new registration series. The new registration mark for new vehicles issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is - BH-series.

Under a new system of Bharat Series (BH), registration of private vehicles of those defense personnel, employees of central and state governments, public sector undertakings and private sector companies/organizations which have offices in four or more states/union territories can be done.

The Ministry of Road Transport has started a new registration chain to make the movement of personal vehicles between states easily possible. The ministry has notified the new registration mark Bharat Series (BH-Series) under this arrangement.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement, under the Bharat Series, this facility will be available on a voluntary basis to those employees of Defense Personnel, Central Government / State Government, Central / State Public Sector Undertakings and private sector companies or organizations whose Offices are in four or more States/Union Territories.

Under this arrangement, vehicle owners will not be required to register afresh when they move from one state/UT to another. Under this scheme, the movement of personal vehicles between the states / union territories will be done smoothly.

The IT based solution for registration of vehicles is an effort in this direction, the statement said. Transfer from one state to another required re-registration of vehicles, which was a very cumbersome task.

The registration mark of the BH chain will be YY BH #### XX. YY shall mean the year of first registration. BH will be the code for the Bharat series. #### will be a four digit number and XX will be a two letter.

The Ministry has introduced a new registration mark Bharat Series for the registration of new vehicles through a notification issued on August 26, 2021. Owners of vehicles bearing this registration mark will not be required to register afresh on relocation to another state.

According to the notification, at the time of registration of BH-series non-transport vehicles, a motor vehicle tax of eight per cent will be levied by the states/UTs on vehicles up to Rs 10 lakh.

This tax will be 10 percent on vehicles of 10 to 20 lakh rupees, 12 percent on vehicles above 20 lakh rupees. Two percent additional duty will be charged on diesel vehicles. At the same time, two percent less duty will be charged on electric vehicles.
