Dhirubhai sold pakoras, worked at a petrol pump, then gradually became a billionaire

Dream big because dreams of those who dream big only come true, said Dhirubhai Ambani. Dhirajlal Hiralal Ambani also known as Dhirubhai was a famous industrialist of India. Dhirajlal Hiralal Ambani founded Reliance Textiles in 1966. Dhirubhai Ambani worked for a salary of Rs 300, but when Dhirubhai left the world, his wealth was more than Rs 62 thousand crores. Due to the hard work, honesty and dedication with which Dhirubhai has progressed, every youth of India takes inspiration from him. Dhirubhai was one of the inspirational personalities not only in India but in the world.

Early life-

Dhirajlal Hiralal Ambani was born on 28 December 1932 in Chorwad, a small village in Junagadh district of Gujarat. His father's name was Hiralal Ambani and mother's name was Jamnaben. Dhirubhai Ambani's father was a teacher. Dhirubhai had four siblings. Dhirubhai's early life was troubled. Having such a big family had to face financial problems. Due to all these problems, he had to leave school education in the middle. To help his father, Dhirubhai started doing odd jobs.

Business trip-

After leaving his studies, Dhirubhai started selling fruits and snacks, but to no avail. He started selling pakodas at a religious place near the village, but this work was completely dependent on tourists, which was good at some times of the year and at other times it was of little use. Dhirubhai Ambani also stopped this work after some time. After the first two business failures, Dhirubhai's father advised him to take up a job.

When silver coins used to move in Yemen, Dhirubhai Ambani started selling them by melting them, then luck changed when he lost his job.

The business of the Ambani family is spread not only in India, but in many countries of the world. Although today, no matter how rich this family may be, but there was a time when Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries, used to sell silver coins in Yemen by melting them.

The Ambani family is the richest family in India today. Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, is the richest man in India today, while his younger brother Anil Ambani is also very rich. The business of the Ambani family is spread not only in India, but in many countries of the world. Although today, no matter how rich this family may be, but there was a time when Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries, used to sell silver coins in Yemen by melting them.

Dhirubhai Ambani went to the Middle East Asian country Yemen to do a job. There he used to work at a petrol pump. Silver coins were in circulation in Yemen in those days. Dhirubhai realized that the silver value of these coins was more than the value of the coins and started supplying these coins to a London company by melting them. However, by the time the government of Yemen came to know about this, they had made huge profits.

On the basis of his hard work and ability, Dhirubhai reached a big post there in a few years, but later he left everything and came back to India. After returning to India, Dhirubhai Ambani started the business of polyester yarn along with his cousin Champaklal Damani, as well as started importing and exporting spices.

However, they later separated, after which Dhirubhai started a textile mill in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, named 'Reliance Textiles' in 1966. This was the turning point of his life, after that he never looked back and kept on moving forward.

His brand name was Vimal. It was branded in such a way that it soon became household name and Vimal's textile became a big Indian name. Vimal was actually the name of his elder brother Ramnik Lal's son. It is said that when Dhirubhai Ambani left the world, his wealth was more than 62 thousand crore rupees.

Business while on the job

Dhirubhai Ambani's elder brother used to work in Yemen. With his help, Dhiru Bhai also got a chance to go to Yemen. There he worked at a petrol pump at a salary of Rs 300 per month. In just two years, due to his ability, he reached the post of manager. Even during this job, Dhiru Bhai's mind was less towards it and more towards opportunities to do business. Dhirubhai pondered over every possibility during this time to see how he can become a successful business man. An incident narrates the passion for business - when Dhirubhai Ambani was working in a company, the workers working there used to get tea for only 25 paise, but Dhirubhai used to go to a big hotel nearby for tea, Where one had to pay Re 1 for tea. When he was asked the reason for this, he told that big businessmen come to him in big hotels and talk about business. I go to listen to them only so that I can understand the nuances of business. This shows how much Dhirubhai Ambani had a passion for business.

After some time, movements for independence started in Yemen, due to this all the doors of business were closed for the Indians living there. After this, in the early 1950s, Dhirubhai Ambani returned to India from Yemen and started the import-export business of polyester yarn and spices together with his cousin Champaklal Damani. Reliance Commercial Corporation started with a small office on Narasimha Street in Masjid Bunder. From here the Reliance company was born. Dhirubhai's goal behind this business was to manufacture as many products and quality as possible without paying much attention to profits. During this time Ambani and his family lived in a small apartment in 'Jai Hind Estate' in Bhuleswar, Mumbai.

The business partnership of Dhirubhai Ambani and Champaklal Damani ended in 1965. Their nature and way of doing business were completely different, so this partnership did not last long. While Damani was a cautious businessman, Dhirubhai was considered a risk taker. After this Dhirubhai got involved in the business of yarn, which was more prone to loss than the previous business. But he was firm in his tune. He started this business in a small store and soon Dhirubhai became the director of Bombay Yarn Merchant Association on the strength of his ability.

By now Dhirubhai had a good understanding of the textile business. Understanding the good opportunities in this business, he established a textile mill at Naroda, Ahmedabad in the year 1966. Here, polyester yarn was used in textile manufacturing and Dhirubhai started the brand 'Vimal' which was named after his elder brother Ramniklal Ambani's son, Vimal Ambani. He promoted the brand “Vimal” on such a large scale that the brand became a household name even in the interiors of India.

In the 1980s, Dhirubhai succeeded in obtaining a license from the government to manufacture polyester filament yarn. After this Dhirubhai continued to climb the ladder of success. Dhirubhai is also credited with starting the equity cult in India. When Reliance issued its IPO in 1977, more than 58,000 investors invested in it. Dhirubhai was successful in convincing the rural people of Gujarat and other states that whoever bought the shares of his company would only get a return on his investment. During his lifetime, Dhirubhai expanded the business of Reliance in various fields. This mainly includes petrochemicals, telecommunications, information technology, energy, power, retail, textiles/textiles, infrastructure services, capital markets and logistics. Both the sons of Dhirubhai are successfully leading the generation of 'Reliance' by making full use of the new opportunities created by the free economy after 1991.

Reliance Industries, the company that Dhirubhai Ambani had set up at the cost of some money, had 85000 employees by 2012 and 5% of the Central Government tax was given by Reliance. And in 2012, Reliance was also included in the world's 500 richest and largest companies by assets. Dhirubhai Ambani was also included in the list of Top 50 Businessmen of Asia in Sunday Times.

Dhirubhai's big statement

Dhirubhai used to say, “Whoever says that he works for 12 to 16 hours. He is either a liar or too slow to act.” Dhirubhai Ambani did not like partying at all. He used to spend every evening with his family. I didn't like to travel much. He used to give the work of foreign trips mostly to the officers of his company.

Caught the pulse of the market like this

Dhirubhai Ambani had started knowing about the market very well and he understood that polyester is in highest demand in India and Indian spices abroad. After this the business idea came to him from here. He started a company, Reliance Commerce Corporation, which started selling Indian spices abroad and foreign polyester in India. For his office, Dhirubhai had designed a 350-square-foot room with a table, three chairs, two assistants and a telephone. His business took off and during the year 2000, Dhirubhai Ambani emerged as the richest person in the country. He died on 6 July 2002 in a hospital in Mumbai.

Dhirubhai's method of business, in which the soil of India was sold to the Sheikh of Arabia

In our country, people say that Reliance is that bubble of the country's industries, which has the power to burst. I say that I am the bubble that has burst.

Dhirubhai Ambani said smiling in a press conference

Many people called it Dhirubhai's Arrogance. Critics said that it would not last long. Suspicious people said that it is just going to be ruined. But today Reliance is the largest industrial house of the country. Ambani's name is the name of a hope for the industry of this country. As soon as this name comes, all the doubts, controversies, allegations come to the fore. But there is also a fact that despite everything, the idea of proving one's ability also comes from here.

In the 60s, Dhirubhai started Reliance Commercial Corporation with 15 thousand rupees. This was his first big venture. Reliance Textiles was started in 1967 with Rs.15 lakhs. Reliance has a lot of investors. Reliance is among the highest dividend paying companies. Every first thing in the country comes in the hands of Reliance. This becomes an allegation. But the fact remains that Reliance is one of the best companies for anyone to invest in.

Wanted to buy a jeep, set up a company

Dhirubhai was born on 28 December 1932 in Junagadh, Gujarat. The same city which once wanted to remain separate from India. Till high school, it was my wish that there should be a jeep or car nearby. That's why you probably didn't even read it. It must have been thought that after reading more, this would keep thinking. Later moved to Aden. By becoming a clerk in a company. There was a French firm that worked with Shell Oil. Dhirubhai was put into retail marketing. He looked after work in Eritrea, Djibouti, Somaliland, Kenya and even Uganda. Dhirubhai used to say about it – 'It was fun.'

Dhirubhai himself had said that there he was bitten by the worm of entrepreneurship. Came to Bombay. Opened office in Bhaat Bazar. Contacts were made in Aden. Started exporting Ginger, Cardamom, Turmeric and Spices. But also used to send a funny thing. A sheikh of Saudi Arabia wanted to build a rose garden here. He needed soil. And Dhirubhai did not say no to anyone.

While eating paan and drinking tea, Dhirubhai took over the yarn industry of Bombay. They were called Pakka Gujarati Banias. Anil Ambani remembers that the family lived in a shell in Bombay. in a room. Both brothers used to play in the same streets. When Dhirubhai opened the company in 1967, he did not have that much money. So he sought the help of Viren Shah. Viren owned Mukand Iron and Steel Company. But Shah refused. They felt that this project would not work.

The story became that whatever Dhirubhai touches, turns into gold, but there were allegations of blackening

But Dhirubhai had a habit of playing with such things. Raise money Company started. Reliance Public Limited Company was formed in 1977. When the shares were opened to the public, the fear was so much that only investors were not taking part in it. His friend DN Shroff was explaining to his experts that buy shares worth lakhs of rupees guys. But nobody bought it.

There were some people who believed that whatever Dhirubhai touches, turns into gold. So the work went on. Rayon and Nylon began to be imported and exported. It was not made anywhere in the country. So the profit was a lot. But in this it was alleged that Dhirubhai breaks the law. Black marketing. Dhirubhai called a meeting and asked- "You accuse me of black marketing, but which one of you has not slept with me?" People didn't have the answer. Because everyone did business with Dhirubhai.

There were allegations that Dhirubhai has something with the help of which he gets every license removed. Don't let your rivals rise. But Dhirubhai was clear that show anyone who has worked more honestly than me. In 1982, Reliance was a polyester yarn manufacturer. from dimethyl terephthalate. Rival company Orke Silk Mills was also manufacturing yarn from polyester chips. But in the same year the government increased the import duty on chips. Orke had a problem.

Dhirubhai replied to this, the truth is that no one becomes big just like this.

In November 1982, Reliance started manufacturing polyester yarn. Now the tax has increased on import of yarn. So Ambani got the benefit. in selling. Well, there have been a lot of cases. Ambani also clarified this. But they could not clear much. He said that I will not get the benefit of being close to Indira Gandhi and RK Dhawan. Even a lower level officer can stop a project. Nobody can do anything. But with this one more thing happened. Dhirubhai did the party after the Lok Sabha elections in 1980. Indira Gandhi also came in this. Another news was leaked. That a joint secretary got a call from Dhawan about why Ambani's license was stopped. After a while the phone rang again.

Ambani used to say – you have to sell your idea to the government. Then it has to be shown that the company's plan is in the interest of the country. When the government says that there is no money, then we say that it is okay, we finance it. A friend of Ambani once said - If a poor man makes money quickly, then the ladder he uses is not clean at all. But if someone thinks that Dhirubhai has made money by doing only this, then he thinks wrong. The truth is that the other businessmen could not do the methods used by Dhirubhai. left behind.

There are hundreds of stories of Dhirubhai Ambani. It depends on the beholder what he chooses. Like every story, there is truth and lies, right and wrong, sooner or later everything is there.
