Teachers' Day: Appreciation Ideas, Messages and Significance

Traditionally, teachers in India are comparable to God. Why not—teachers play pivotal role in shaping a child’s life in his formative life when he spends most of his time in school. It is rightly said that child is the father of man. Whatever a child learns in his impressionable years, remains with him for the rest of his life. Teachers’ Day is celebrated in India to pay obeisance to the great teachers of India.

The celebration of this day has its root in 20th Century. This day is commemorated as a mark of respect for Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first vice president and second president of India. Radhakrishnan was a great thinker, diplomat, academician, diplomat, but above all he was a teacher. In May, 1962 he became the president of India, a post that he served till May, 1967. In the year 1954, he was honoured with Bharat Ratna. Though he was knighted by the British Government in the year 1931, but he used only his academic title ‘Doctor’ and renounced knight.
