Voting was held on Sunday
(April 23) for 270 of 272 seats in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. In the
elections being called 'semi-final' of the Assembly elections, the Bharatiya
Janata Party is contesting against the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress.
However, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of Mayawati, Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal
United (JDU), Yogendra Yadav's Swaraj Party is also in the fray. As soon as the
polling ends, media organizations have started putting their prospects ahead of
election results. During intense election campaign ended on Friday, the leaders
from all the parties did their level best to woo voters. The effect of the
political picture emerging from this election can be seen in other states other
than Delhi. The results will come out on April 26. Polling was conducted
peacefully on Sunday for three Municipal Corporations of Delhi.
An Election Commission
official said that 42 percent polling was recorded till 4 pm, and the final
figure is being added after the polling ends at 5.30 pm. However, the voters
who had been in the rows till 5.30 pm would be allowed to cast their vote.
Polling for 272 wards of three corporations ended in Delhi on Sunday. In the
municipal corporation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been holding power
over the past 10 years.
